From Blackfeet Country to All-American Excellence

Few athletes embody the spirit of Montana basketball quite like Pete Conway II. A gifted competitor, respected leader, and role model for generations, Conway’s journey from the Blackfeet Nation to collegiate basketball stardom stands as a testament to perseverance, determination, and hard work.

Raised in Montana, Conway’s love for the game began on outdoor courts where Native athletes often developed their skills under challenging conditions. His talent and dedication earned him a place on the Browning High School basketball team, where he quickly proved himself as a player who could compete with the best.

Conway continued his basketball career at Eastern Montana College (now Montana State University Billings), where he became one of the premier players in program history. He helped lead the Yellowjackets to conference championships and national tournament appearances and earned All-Conference, All-District, and Honorable Mention All-American honors during his collegiate career. His outstanding accomplishments later earned him induction into the MSU Billings Athletic Hall of Fame.

Beyond the court, Conway built a distinguished career in public service and healthcare leadership. As a longtime leader within the Indian Health Service, he dedicated himself to improving opportunities and quality of life for Native communities across the region.
